Eugene city auditor will save money

In the June 3, 2017, issue of the Register-Guard, Eugene resident Paul Nicholson writes in a letter:

I’m responding to letters suggesting that spending 0.1 percent of Eugene’s city budget on an elected performance auditor would be “a waste of money.” On the contrary, not having an auditor has wasted a lot of money.

I served on the Eugene City Council in the 1990s. I’ve been a local business owner for decades. Eugene has annual revenues approaching $800 million. I assure you that well-run local businesses spend more than a 0.1 percent of their revenue on auditing. A good auditor will save many times the cost of auditing. …
