Eugene voters Tuesday rejected both city auditor proposals on the primary ballot.
Bonny Bettman McCornack backed measure 20-283 which would have established an elected city auditor. She says she’s disappointed by the outcome but proud of the campaign for an independent auditor.
McCornack: “The problems at City Hall haven’t gone away with the defeat of the independent auditor measure and they are likely to get worse because I think the city will interpret this as permission to double down on the way they do business.”
The other auditor measure called for one appointed by the Eugene City Council. It was crafted in reaction to measure 20-283. McCornack describes it as a “spoiler,” an attempt to defeat the elected auditor measure by creating confusion.
