Elected Auditor Voting Advantage Over Appointed Auditor by Ward and Region

On June 13, 2018, the Lindholm Company Blog, analyzed the results of the recent election:

This chart shows how much better the elected auditor measure did by ward than the appointed auditor measure.

As one would expect based on the geographic distribution of voting for the appointed and elected auditors there is not much variation. However, the least variation was in north Eugene. The greatest variation was in Ward 1 – in the area of the city where many of the leaders behind the elected auditor measure reside.

The dramatic movement of the housekeeping charter amendment at the recently completed election is proof of that. Adding an elected Independent Auditor in Eugene is supported by a wide margin. However, it does not hit the crucial 70% level. Ideas that sound good tend to get a large amount of initial support. Campaigns tend to reduce that support. Usually a measure like this would need something above 60% to be really ahead and would like north of 70% to be comfortable.

Eugene City Council

On Monday, February 12th, 2018, at 7:30 pm, the Eugene City Council voted 5-2 (Clark & Taylor opposed, Semple absent) for Resolution No. 5219 to refer the Citizens for Sensible Oversight proposal for an independent performance auditor to voters on the May 2018 ballot.

This site is intended to support community efforts to explore having a performance auditor for the City of Eugene.

In particular, this site includes information on the Eugene Performance Auditor Study Group convened by Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis to look at the pros and cons of different ways to establish a performance auditor.
