First of five “Meet the Auditor” sessions will be Wednesday in west Eugene: Lane County performance auditor Shanda Miller will explain her office functions, answer questions

In the September 22, 2015, issue of the Register-Guard, staff write:

Lane County’s recently appointed performance auditor, Shanda Miller, will host five “meet the auditor” sessions, beginning Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Malabon Elementary School, 1380 Taney St. in Eugene. …

Miller will share information on how and why her office conducts performance audits. Time will be given for questions.

Miller, who started in February, reports directly to the commissioners to ensure her independence from county management.

As a performance auditor, Miller is charged with providing objective analysis of the efficiency and effectiveness of government programs. That’s different from a financial auditor, a position that entails reviewing business or government books to verify their accuracy and seek out potential discrepancies or fraud.

To come up with a work plan, Miller said that she conducted “risk assessments” for 30 key county programs over the past few months. …
