In the September 21, 2017, issue of the Register-Guard, chief petitioner and former Eugene City Councilor Bonny Bettman McCornack writes in a guest viewpoint:
“City Accountability,” our all volunteer petition committee, is working hard to acquire 10,000 signatures from Eugene voters. When those signatures are certified by local election officials, our proposed measure to amend the Eugene City Charter to establish an office of an independent elected city auditor will appear on the May 2018 ballot.
Then voters get to decide for themselves if they want an auditor that is accountable to them, and will serve as their eyes and ears at City Hall. …
