An initiative to establish an independently elected Eugene city auditor has qualified for the May 2018 ballot.
In a letter to initiative backers, City Recorder Beth Forrest on Wednesday said Lane County Elections notified her that the pro-auditor group had gathered the required minimum of 8,091 valid signatures to refer the measure to voters.
The group, City Accountability, said it had gathered almost 13,000 signatures. Forrest’s letter noted that slightly more than 10,000 signatures of city voters were verified under the random sampling. …
