In the January 17, 2018, issue of the Register-Guard, Eugene resident Ruth Duemler writes in a letter:
So some Eugene City Council members want to choose their city auditor.
Don’t they understand that what is urgently needed is a city auditor with no ties to city administration or the council?
Every time I see our empty gravel pit I’m reminded of the millions lost when we mowed down City Hall: Money spent on rent, remodeling for city employees and relocating city services — and I doubt we will ever have money for underground parking.
Expert engineers claimed that structure rehab for earthquake protection would be less than a million dollars, and now a new City Hall is still many years in the future. If only we had had a real city auditor then, and not a yes man to the council and administration.
