Two proposals for Eugene city auditor likely to be on May ballot

In the January 11, 2018, issue of the Register-Guard, reporter Christian Hill writes:

Come the May election, Eugene voters appear increasingly likely to have two rival city auditor proposals to choose between.

The competing Eugene City Council-backed proposal to the existing Measure 20-283 independent city auditor proposal moved a step closer to the ballot with a narrow vote by councilors on Wednesday.

On a 4-3 vote, city ­councilors directed city staff to draft for later discussion a proposed ­charter amendment calling for the hiring of a performance auditor. The draft amendment would be based on the “objectives and provisions” included in the proposal that Citizens for Sensible Oversight formally presented to city councilors Monday night.

City councilors did not refer the measure to the ballot. The deadline to do so is Feb. 12. …
