Lane County has picked a new performance auditor to search out potential problems and inefficiencies in the county government.
The previous auditor left last summer, and the county’s first choice for the job turned it down.
On Wednesday, the county announced it has chosen Casey Crear for the position. Crear is a postdoctoral research fellow in Denver, according to his resume on file with the county.
The hire isn’t final. His contract is subject to approval by the Lane County Board of Commissioners at its Tuesday meeting.
The county would give Crear a base pay of $85,904 per year plus an amount equal to 3 percent of pay in deferred compensation and $20,000 in moving expenses, according to the contract commissioners are set to vote on.
If he’s formally hired, Crear would begin in March. …
