In the March 8, 2018, issue of the Register-Guard, Eugene resident Ruth Duemler writes in a letter:
I don’t understand. How could we believe that our Eugene City Council should select its own auditor?
One only has to drive by the late City Hall gravel pit to see council past mistakes and realize the millions lost. I doubt we will ever afford the City Hall we need—and of course, never expensive underground parking.
A city auditor needs to be completely independent from our part-time council. I do hope our community understands that an independent auditor means it is separate from the council.
