Eugene Council candidates debate merits of competing auditor ballot measures

In the March 31, 2018, issue of the Register-Guard, reporter Christian Hill writes:

With less than seven weeks until the May primary election, four of the five candidates for the two contested seats for Eugene City Council voiced differing perspectives on the dueling city auditor measures during a forum Friday.

Longtime incumbents Mike Clark and Alan Zelenka, both seeking their fourth four-year terms, are facing a total of three political newcomers.

For the Ward 5 seat representing north Eugene, Clark is facing a challenge from Christopher Dean, a principal broker at Bennett & Dean Real Estate.

Thomas Bruno, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and former business owner, and Hugh Patterson III, a linguist and community organizer, are vying to unseat Zelenka for the Ward 3 seat, which encompasses the University of Ore­gon and its surrounding neighborhoods.

The City Club of Eugene and the League of Women Voters Lane County jointly sponsored the forum, held at the Baker Downtown Center and moderated by Rachael McDonald, KLCC’s interim news director. …
